By the time you read this, the 2011 Operation Soldiers Christmas will be completed. This year we had only a small amount of donations and that is understandable due to the hard economic situation here in Henderson, and Vance County. We were able to send only 23 boxes this year due to the small amount of donations and the limited postal funds. We did have a small group of soldiers this year so it did balance out that they did receive some holiday items as well as a few of the big ticket items they wanted for their recreation room. We did receive one play station system, a kindle reader, and a very nice Kuerig coffee machine along with many handmade ornaments from the elementary schools and pen pal letters from the Eaton-Johnson Middle School Ambassador program. Donations of socks, blank cd’s and dvd’s, candy, assorted toiletries for men and women, canned nuts from Peanut Roasters, snacks, games, and decks of playing cards rounded out the boxes we sent.
Thank you to all who gave donations of items or cash to the postage fund. The soldiers are worth the effort and please remember them in your prayers, during this holiday season, for their safety and welfare until they return to the USA.
